Funeral services for David A. Kangas, 54, a lifetime resident of Fairport Harbor, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church, 508 Eagle St., Fairport Harbor. A reception at the church will follow.


Mr. Kangas died Aug. 7, 2006, at LakeWest Hospital in Willoughby.


He was born Dec. 26, 1951, in Painesville, OH.


He graduated in 1970 from Fairport Harding High School. He has always been an avid supporter of Lake County sporting events. He was a former officer of the Lion's Club, member of the Finnish Heritage Museum, Hungarian Culture Club, and Fairport Business Association.


Mr. Kangas owned Sportee's in Fairport Harbor and serviced the athletic community for over 30 years.


Survivors are his mother, Martha (Hendrickson) Kangas of Fairport Harbor; and brothers, Gene (Linda) of Concord and William (Joyce) of Fairport Harbor.


His father, Eugene "Miller" Kangas, died in 1988. His infant sister is also deceased.


Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Potti Funeral Home, 538 Fifth St., Fairport Harbor. The Rev. Hannu Vepsalainen of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate the services. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Fairport Harbor.

The family suggests contributions be made in honor of David Kangas to your favorite youth athletic league.
