ROUND LAKE, Ill. -
Roy M. Kemppainen, age 71, passed away June 16, 2012, at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Ill.
He was born January 27, 1941, in Salo to William and Susanna (Puska) Kemppainen.
In 1952, he moved to Fairport Harbor, Ohio. Roy graduated from Harding High School in 1958 and attended Suomi College in Hancock.
He served in the United States Army in the 1960s during the Vietnam War.
On July 15, 1967, he was married to Azalea Skrzypek in Dekalb, Ill.
He was a Round Lake resident for 40 years. Roy was employed as a production planner for Maclean-Fogg for more than 30 years.
While living in Round Lake, he was a member of American Legion Post 1170.
Survivors include two sons, Scott Kemppainen of Round Lake and Dale (Kim) Kemppainen of Rockford; a brother, Rev. Rudolph (Darley) Kemppainen of Ishpeming; three grandchildren, Tara, Krystal and Ryan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Azalea, on January 27, 2009; his parents; two sisters, Elma Hogya and Martha Rothenberger; and three brothers, Alfie, Carl and Raymond.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, at Justen's Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 W. North Rosedale Court (at Cedar Lake Road), Round Lake, IL 60073.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Rev. Lisle Kauffman to officiate. Interment will be in East Fox Lake Cemetery in Lake Villa.
