Arthur P. Lagerstedt, Sr., age 72, of Fairport Harbor, passed away May 8, 2014, at Lake West Hospital in Willoughby.
He was born March 24, 1942, in Fairport Harbor, Ohio to Arthur P. and Aino (Kiika) Lagerstedt.
He graduated from Fairport High School where he excelled as a basketball player. He then graduated from Ohio University and received his Masters Degree in Education from Lake Erie College. After graduating from Ohio U., Art took his first teaching job in Las Vegas. He then returned to Ohio and taught for a few years in Painesville Twp. and then spent the next 27 years teaching at Garfield Elementary School in Mentor. Art had many students who continued to stay in touch with him and expressed their appreciation and love for him.
Art was an avid and talented golfer. He earned his PGA card and was assistant manager of Blackbrook CC for many years. Art ran the Junior League and gave many lessons. Besides his 3 hole in ones Art shot a 29 on the front nine of Blackbrook right after he retired from teaching. Art won the Senior Championship at Madison CC also.
Art was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his singing. He loved all of his many friends.
He is survived by his wife Susan Lagerstedt; son Arthur P. (Jill) Lagerstedt, Jr.; stepsons Jason (Sabrina) Balogh and Justin (Katie) Balogh and grandchildren Grace, Callyn and Jake Lagerstedt and Alex, Nicky, Samantha and Madelyn Balogh.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue, (opposite Lake Erie College), Painesville.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Chapman of Leroy Community Church officiating.

Art was also a member of the Finnish Heritage Museum in Fairport Harbor, OH.
