Matt (Matti) K. Lehtonen, 81, of Concord passed away Monday, March 11, 2013, at Tri-Point
Medical Center in Concord.
Born Dec. 9, 1931, in Isokyro, Finland.
Mr. Lehtonen was a self-employed mason for many years. He was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church and on the building committee, Kaleva Lodge, sang in the church choir, attended the Finnish Services and in the Finnish Army. He was also a member of the Finnish Heritage Museum of Fairport Harbor. Matt Lehtonen was an active member on the volunteer committee that was responsible for the creation of the Finnish Monument in Fairport's Veterans park. Their participation was greatly appreciated and is an important part of their legacy.
Survivors are his loving wife, Raili (Louko) of 57 years; children, David (Kerin) Lehtonen of Greenville, S.C., Riitta (Dennis) Yurkovich of Concord, and Christine (Alan) Rogers of Bluffton, S.C.; grandchildren, Brittani (fiance, Alejandro Rojas) Orry, Jason, Lydia, and Emily; brothers, Sauli, Mauno and Heikki; and sister, Kyllikki Inna.
He was preceded in death by his parents Toivo and Maria (Haavisto) Lehtonen; brothers, Tauno, Paul, Kalevi, and sister Aili Sunikka.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 508 Eagle St. in Fairport Harbor.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Friday until the time of the service at the church.
