John R. Leivo, 85, of Concord, passed away on June 27, 2015, at Tri-Point Hospital surrounded by his family.
John was born in Isojoki, Finland, on March 23, 1930.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport Harbor, the Kaleva Lodge, and avid car show attender especially with his 1983 Cadillac. He loved spending time with his family and had served as a Lt. in the Finnish army with an artillery unit. John was an active member of the Finnish Heritage Museum. He also was an active member on the volunteer committee that was responsible for the creation of the Finnish Monument in Fairport's Veterans park. Their participation was greatly appreciated and is an important part of their legacy.
John had been employed by the Painesville Municipal Power Plant as chief engineer and supervisor.
Survivors are his wife, Aili; son, Karl (Pam) Leivo of Mentor; daughters, Merja (Phil) Shrout of Concord and Kathy (Mike) Cottage of Perry; sister, Marjatta Leivo, and brother, Tapani Leivo, both of Finland; grandchildren, Jennifer Crissman, Sarah Crowl, Jon Leivo, Kristina Fronczek and Melissa Dubsky; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Karina, William, Sam and John Daniel.
Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church, 504 Eagle Street, Fairport Harbor. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Potti Funeral Home, 1009 Mentor Avenue, Painesville. Officiating at the funeral will be the Rev. Hannu Vepsalainen. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery.
