Robert A. Noponen, 76, of Painesville, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013, at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township. He was a lifelong resident of Fairport Harbor and Painesville.
Born Nov. 27, 1936, in Painesville, to Matti and Eila (Kuhlman) Noponen, Mr. Noponen was the owner of Bob's Tractor Works. He also drove trucks for Matlack Trucking, and worked at the Painesville School System as a bus driver and doing janitorial work.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He was proud of his Finnish heritage and was a member of the Finnish Heritage Museum in Fairport Harbor, VFW Post 7754 in Fairport Harbor and Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors are his wife, Janet; sons, Andrew R. (Sherry) Noponen of Noel, Mo., and Robert B. Noponen and Mac A. (Brandy) Noponen, both of Painesville; grandchildren, Heath, Amber, Nicholas, Keith, Kevin and Jenny; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Jane (Frank) Perrinacci of the Mentor Headlands.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Martin and David; son, Brian R. Noponen; sister, Elizabeth; and parents, Matti and Eila Noponen.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Potti Funeral Home, 1009 Mentor Ave., Painesville.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 325 Sixth St., Fairport Harbor, with visitation one hour before the services at the church.
Contributions may be made to the Finnish Heritage Museum, 301 High St., Fairport Harbor, OH 44077, Immanuel Lutheran Church or St. Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Bowhall Road, Painesville.
