Rit OndoPrivate Graveside services for Richard "Rit" D. Ondo, age 64, a lifetime Painesville and Fairport Harbor resident were held at Evergreen Cemetery in Painesville.


The son of John Francis and Marion Virginia (Starkey) Ondo was born on June 14, 1951 in Painesville and passed away Nov. 27, 2015 at his home in Fairport Harbor.


Rit served honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home he owned and operated Ondo T.V. and Electric in Fairport Harbor for over 30 years. He also retired from the Lubrizol Corporation after 25 years of service. A 1969 graduate of Fairport Harding High School, Rit was a member of V.F.W. Post 7754, the Hungarian Culture Club, the Finnish Heritage Museum, Fairport Harbor Port Authority, Toastmasters and National Rifle Association.


He was an official with the OHSAA refereeing football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, wrestling, swimming, both slow pitch and fast pitch softball, baseball, and track and field. He was an author who published 7 books over the past 10 years.


He is survived by his son, Michael (Andrea) Ondo of Grand River; twin daughters, Sara (Andrew) Salonen of San Diego CA., and Jennifer (Josh Gray) Ondo of Fairport Harbor; granddaughter, Reese Salonen; brothers, Jerry (Karen) Ondo of Perry, and David (Gabby) Ondo of Painesville.


He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John and James Ondo.
