Early in the day, the decision was made to have our annual FHM June Picnic in Finn Hollow Park instead of the regular meeting inside the building. That was in spite of the thunderstorms in the area.

By the time 6:00 rolled around, Mother Nature was still flexing her muscles and showing it with thunder, lightning, and rain, lot’s of it. However, after the opening inside meeting festivities were concluded, the sun broke out and all was well. It may have had something to do with ample amounts of Sisu and patriotism being shown.

The evening started with the National Anthem, followed by Maamme. Everyone sang the, while the second verse of Maamme was soloed by Chip Knox, accompanied by Heikki Perttu on his electric keyboard.

The pot luck dinner exceeded expectations with multiple dishes expertly prepared by FHM members. Hot dogs or “kuuma koirat” were superbly grilled by FHM master griller, Ronnie Boyett.

The evening concluded with members enjoying each other’s company. No formal meeting was conducted. Some members retired to the amphitheater behind the Fairport Harbor lighthouse to listen to a Neil Diamond tribute band, which is the first in a series of Summer concert series sponsored by Discover Fairport Harbor.
