INTENSIVE #1 - DESIGNING FOR THE STAGE

Monday, May 1, 3:00 – 6:00pm - COSTUME DESIGN

Fairport Harbor Library / Harding High School

Instructor: Susan Yanofsky (Professional Costume Designer, Dallas, TX)

Topics explored will be costume creation, character realization and the production process including collaboration with the director and other designers. Participants will engage in several hands-on activities suitable for all skill levels. The takeaway for participants will be an understanding of the design choices that are involved in theater costume design and production. No previous experience required. Great for quilters, scrapbookers, seamstresses, and visual artists of all kinds!

Tuesday, May 2, 3:00- 6:00pm - SCENIC & LIGHTING DESIGN

Instructor: T. Paul Lowry (Professional Theater Designer, Cleveland, OH)

Topics include an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the design team, tools & equipment, production timelines, and basic design concepts for creating theatrical environments. Participants will engage in several hands-on activities suitable for all skill levels. The takeaway for participants will be an understanding of the design choices involved in creating scenic and lighting design. No previous experience required. Great for photographers, designers, woodworkers, model makers, and visual artists of all kinds!

Join other adults to learn folk songs, choral pieces and singing techniques that promote vocal health and longevity. Together we will explore traditional folk songs, rounds and chants from the United States, South America, Europe and Africa. With these songs as our basis we will transform traditional melodies into musical experiences we can share together. No previous experience required!

INTENSIVE #3 - SOCIAL & GROUP DANCES

Monday, May 22, 7:00 – 9:00pm
Tuesday, May 23, 7:00 – 9:00pm
Wednesday, May 24, 7:00 – 9:00pm

In this joyful and energetic workshop you will learn traditional folk dances from around the world. We'll explore line dances, circle dances and square dances from a variety of cultures and then begin to delve into the choreographic process. We will draw inspiration from folk dances as well as modern dance and our daily lives. Finally, we will create a dance video as part of Finland's centenary Dance Challenge. Bring an open mind and wear sneakers or closed toe sandals!
